Missing Chinese Woman Found Dead in Canal in Thailand
BANGKOK, March 18, 2026 — Thai police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 34-year-old Chinese tourist was found in a canal in Ratchaburi province, days after she went missing in Pattaya, local media reported.
The victim, identified as Ji Cherngchao, had been reported missing on Feb. 23 in the coastal city of Pattaya, according to the Bangkok Post.
Authorities said her body was discovered on Feb. 25, and initial investigations indicated that it had been dumped in the canal several days earlier.
Police have charged a 29-year-old Chinese man, Zhao Tianxing, with detention leading to death and illegal concealment of a body, alleging he abandoned the victim in the waterway.
A preliminary autopsy found no visible signs of external injuries, though investigators have not ruled out other causes of death and said further forensic analysis is ongoing.
According to travel records, Ji had visited Thailand five times, most recently entering the country on Dec. 5, 2025.
The case has drawn attention as Thailand continues efforts to maintain tourist safety, a key pillar of its economy, while police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
