Preah Vihear, 8 December 2025 — Buddhist monks and local residents in Preah Vihear Province have been compelled to evacuate from high-risk areas along the Cambodia–Thailand border in order to escape incoming artillery fire, according to official updates shared by the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Information on social media.

The evacuations follow a series of armed incidents that began on the afternoon of 7 December 2025 and continued into the morning of 8 December 2025, during which Thai military forces reportedly conducted repeated firing toward Cambodian positions, in violation of the existing ceasefire and the Joint Declaration on the Cambodia–Thailand peace agreement.

Despite the escalating security risks and the displacement of religious clergy and civilians, Cambodian forces have continued to exercise the highest degree of restraint, adhering strictly to the principles of the ceasefire and maintaining a posture of calm and discipline in the interest of regional peace and stability.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and continue to prioritize the safety of civilians in the affected border communities.
