Natthaphon Says No One Has Discussed Cabinet Position With Him
BANGKOK, Feb 23, 2026 — Thailand’s Defense Minister Gen. Natthaphon Narkphanit said on Monday he has not been approached about joining the incoming cabinet and will focus on completing his current term amid preparations for a new government.
Speaking to reporters, Natthaphon said no one had discussed with him any role in the next administration and declined to elaborate further.
“I will continue working until the end of my term,” he said, adding that his priority is to complete pending tasks and ensure continuity within the ministry.
Natthaphon, who has served as defense minister for the past three to four months, declined to comment on whether he expected to remain in the position under a new government.
“We do the best we can with the time we have,” he said. “No matter what position I have held, I always try to give my best within the time available.”
At a recent Defense Council meeting, he reiterated that the Thai armed forces must remain a central pillar of national security and urged military commanders to broaden their perspectives beyond traditional military concerns.
Thailand is in the process of forming a new government following recent political developments, though details of cabinet appointments have yet to be finalized.
