New UNESCO representative meets top Cambodian officials

PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 — The newly appointed UNESCO Representative to Cambodia, Flavio Bonetti, has begun his tenure with a series of official meetings with senior Cambodian officials, UNESCO Cambodia said on Monday.

Bonetti presented his credentials to Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marking the formal start of his diplomatic mandate.

He also met Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts.

According to UNESCO, Bonetti reaffirmed his willingness and determination to further strengthen cooperation with Cambodia across all of the organisation’s fields of competence, including education, culture, science and communication.

UNESCO and Cambodia have cooperated since 1951, with joint programmes spanning heritage protection, education reform and sustainable development.
