Over 103,000 Displaced Cambodians Return Home as Stability Improves
Phnom Penh, 2 January 2026 — His Excellency Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia, announced that between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on 1 January 2026, a total of 103,177 displaced persons safely returned to their homes, reflecting continued improvement in security conditions and stability.
Following this significant movement, the number of displaced persons remaining has decreased to 409,186, comprising 214,525 women and 131,413 children. The ongoing return process underscores tangible progress in restoring normalcy for communities affected by recent tensions.
The Royal Government of Cambodia continues to closely monitor the situation and remains fully committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all returning citizens, while coordinating relevant authorities to facilitate orderly returns and provide necessary assistance.
This development represents a positive humanitarian indicator and further demonstrates the Government’s determination to advance peace, stability, and recovery in affected areas.
