PM Hun Manet: No Foreign Loans Used in Techo International Airport Construction
Phnom Penh, October 20, 2025 — Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, clarified that the Techo International Airport was not built through foreign borrowing, as has been mistakenly claimed by some commentators, but rather through domestic private sector investment.
Speaking at the official inauguration ceremony of the Techo International Airport on Monday morning, October 20, 2025, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet addressed recent misconceptions suggesting that the Royal Government had borrowed foreign capital to construct the new airport, despite Cambodia being a developing country. He firmly dismissed these claims as inaccurate.
“Techo International Airport is a private investment project undertaken by Cambodian investors. It was not financed through foreign loans, but realized through the participation and efforts of the Cambodian private sector,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Samdech Thipadei further underlined that both the Royal Government and the Cambodian people nationwide take immense pride in the inauguration of this new international gateway, which represents not only national achievement but also Cambodia’s growing capacity for self-reliant development.
He added that the Techo International Airport will play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity between Cambodia and other nations around the world, and in advancing the Kingdom’s Open Sky Policy, contributing to economic growth and international cooperation.
