Russia Welcomes Thailand–Cambodia Ceasefire, Backs ASEAN Mediation Efforts
Moscow, 29 December 2025 — The Russian Federation welcomes the ceasefire arrangements reached between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia following the meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on 27 December 2025, which culminated in the signing of a relevant Joint Statement.
The attainment of sustainable and long-term peace will depend, above all, on the restoration of political trust between the two parties and on their consistent and conscientious efforts to preserve and strengthen that trust. In this regard, the Russian Federation expresses the hope that the current agreement will serve as a meaningful step toward resolving the long-standing border issue and will contribute to the advancement of bilateral dialogue aimed at addressing existing differences through peaceful diplomatic means, in full accordance with both the spirit and the letter of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration.
At a time when the security environment in the Asia-Pacific region continues to deteriorate, it is particularly important for all parties to act in the spirit of ASEAN unity and solidarity in order to overcome existing disputes. In this context, the Russian Federation supports ASEAN’s mediation efforts aimed at normalizing relations between Thailand and Cambodia and strengthening peace and stability in the region.
