BANGKOK, June 19, 2026 – Thai immigration authorities have arrested a South Korean man wanted in his home country over an alleged telecommunications financial fraud case involving losses of about US$7 million, officials said.

The 36-year-old suspect, identified only as Mr. Kim, was detained at a condominium in Bangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng area after Thai authorities revoked his permission to remain in the country.

The Immigration Bureau said the arrest was carried out under its “Three No’s” policy, which targets foreign nationals involved in criminal activity by preventing them from entering, remaining in or using Thailand to evade prosecution.

The case was announced on Wednesday by Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phanumas Boonyalak and senior immigration officials.

According to investigators, South Korean authorities issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim on allegations of violating South Korea’s law on preventing losses from telecommunications-based financial fraud. Authorities said the alleged offences caused losses of approximately US$7 million.

Officials said South Korean authorities also cancelled the suspect’s passport before requesting assistance from Thailand through the Korean National Police Agency’s Consular Police Division.

Thai immigration investigators confirmed that Mr. Kim had entered Thailand legally and still held valid permission to stay before his visa was revoked following the request from South Korean authorities.

Investigators from Immigration Investigation Division 1 traced the suspect to a condominium in Bangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng district, where he was arrested without incident.

According to Thaitabloid, Mr. Kim has been transferred to Immigration Investigation Division 3 for further legal proceedings.

Thai authorities are coordinating with their South Korean counterparts to deport the suspect, who is expected to face prosecution upon his return to South Korea.
