Tea Seiha Expresses Hope Thailand Will Faithfully Uphold Ceasefire Agreement
H.E. General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia
Pailin, 28 December 2025 — H.E. General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on Sunday shared a statement on his official Facebook page following the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held at the Prum–Ban Pak Kard International Border Checkpoint, between Pailin Province, Cambodia, and Chanthaburi Province, Thailand, with the participation of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).
In his post, H.E. Tea Seiha confirmed that Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to implement a ceasefire, which entered into force at 12:00 noon (GMT+7) on 27 December 2025, as part of joint efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore peace along the shared border.
He noted that, upon the full and uninterrupted implementation of the ceasefire for 72 hours, 18 Cambodian soldiers will be released and returned to Cambodia, in line with the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed on 26 October 2025.
H.E. Tea Seiha expressed his hope that the Thai side will fully respect and faithfully implement the outcomes of this Special GBC Meeting, emphasizing the importance of transparency, sincerity, and strict adherence to the ceasefire, for the peace and security of both military personnel and civilians of the two countries.
He underscored the necessity for both sides to work together to rebuild mutual trust and restore normalcy, stressing that cooperation and respect for agreed mechanisms remain essential to achieving lasting peace.
Concluding his statement, H.E. Tea Seiha conveyed his hope that the transition from 2025 into 2026 will bring peace, safety, and well-being to the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand.
