Pattaya, Feb. 11, 2026 — A 25-year-old Thai man was arrested after walking into a police station in Pattaya carrying methamphetamine and asking officers to send him back to prison, police said on Wednesday.

The man, who had been released days earlier from Pattaya Remand Prison, told officers he was struggling to adjust to life outside jail and missed friends he had made while incarcerated, police said.

Authorities said he voluntarily handed over methamphetamine pills and crystal meth to officers and requested that he be formally detained.

Police later confirmed the man also had an outstanding arrest warrant for theft.

He has been charged under Thailand’s narcotics laws and taken into custody pending further legal proceedings.

The case has prompted discussion in local media about the challenges faced by former inmates reintegrating into society, including issues of institutionalisation and mental health support.
