Thai Prime Minister Anutin Signals Openness to Parliamentary Questioning, Suggests Alternative Debate Mechanism
Bangkok, 20 November 2025 — Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that he is prepared to face questioning from the opposition in a no-confidence debate under Section 151 of the constitution. However, he noted that if the opposition seeks to avoid the prospect of the House being dissolved before the debate, they may instead opt for proceedings under Section 152.
Under Section 152, at least one-tenth of the House of Representatives may submit a motion for a general debate aimed at seeking clarification of facts or offering recommendations. The process does not require a vote, enabling lawmakers to question the prime minister and his ministers without triggering mechanisms that could lead to the government’s removal.
Prime Minister Anutin stated that he remains fully willing to respond to all questions posed in parliament. He emphasized that this alternative debate mechanism would prevent the debate from being derailed by an early dissolution of the House, which must occur by January 31.
Acknowledging that his minority government faces a naturally higher risk of being unseated in a no-confidence vote, Anutin nonetheless reaffirmed that the constitutional authority to dissolve the House rests solely with the prime minister.
