Thai Survey Shows Public Wants End to Cambodia Conflict
BANGKOK, May 21, 2026 — A new Thai public opinion survey has found growing support among Thai citizens for a peaceful resolution to tensions with Cambodia, with many respondents favouring diplomacy and de-escalation over prolonged confrontation.
The survey, conducted by Thailand-based policy research group 101 Public Policy Think Tank (101 PUB), examined public attitudes toward the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia dispute and policy responses surrounding border tensions between the two neighbours.
According to the findings published by The101.world, a significant portion of respondents expressed concern over the long-term political, economic and social consequences of continued tensions and supported efforts to end the conflict through negotiation and diplomatic mechanisms.
The survey suggested that many Thais want the government to prioritise stability, peaceful dialogue and bilateral cooperation rather than escalating disputes along the border.
Researchers said the findings reflected broader public concerns about the potential impact of instability on trade, tourism, border communities and regional relations within ASEAN.
The report also indicated support for using existing bilateral frameworks, including the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), to address unresolved border issues between Thailand and Cambodia.
The survey comes as both countries continue discussions over border management and implementation of agreements reached following clashes and tensions in disputed areas during the past year.
Cambodian officials have repeatedly stated that Phnom Penh supports peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law, treaties and existing bilateral agreements, while Thai authorities have also maintained diplomatic engagement through military and regional coordination mechanisms.
The survey’s publication has drawn attention online in Thailand, where public debate over border policy and regional security remains active amid continuing political and nationalist sensitivities surrounding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.
