PHNOM PENH, 14 January 2026 — Thailand has for the second time requested a postponement of a special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) that Cambodia had proposed to hold in mid-January in Siem Reap, Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Border Affairs said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Cambodian side said Thailand cited the need to complete internal procedures to appoint a new JBC composition following the formation of a new cabinet after the Thai general election expected in early February.

Despite the delay, Cambodia said it has formally requested Thailand, through a diplomatic note dated Jan. 13, to resume joint field operations to advance agreed boundary work.

Cambodia called for the deployment of Joint Survey Teams between Jan. 19 and 23 to continue joint surveying and the emplacement of temporary markers between boundary pillars 42–47 and 52–59, work that was suspended in December following what Cambodia described as acts of aggression against its sovereignty.

A second request seeks the replacement of 15 boundary pillars at mutually agreed locations between Jan. 26 and 30.

The Cambodian side reaffirmed that all activities would be conducted in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements, and said it would not recognize any alteration of the boundary resulting from the use of force.
