Thailand Hit by Triple Threat: Toxic Air, Extreme Heat, Storms
BANGKOK, April 1, 2026 — Thailand is facing a combination of environmental hazards, including hazardous air pollution, extreme heat and thunderstorms, with authorities issuing nationwide warnings for multiple regions.
The National Disaster Warning Center Thailand said dangerous levels of PM2.5 air pollution have been recorded across northern and northeastern provinces, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan and Nakhon Phanom.
In at least 20 other provinces, air quality has deteriorated to levels that may begin to affect public health, officials said.
At the same time, extreme heat conditions are impacting 13 provinces, while thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are forecast in 14 provinces, including Tak, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chanthaburi and Trat.
Authorities urged residents to limit outdoor activities, monitor weather updates and take precautions against air pollution, heat-related illness and storm-related risks.
The warning highlights growing environmental pressures in Thailand, where seasonal haze, rising temperatures and unstable weather patterns are increasingly affecting public health and daily life.
