Bangkok, Jan. 12, 2026 — Thailand has announced its intention to convene the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) with Cambodia at the earliest possible opportunity to address ongoing border tensions, reaffirming its commitment to resolving the issue through bilateral mechanisms and in strict adherence to the ceasefire agreed on 27 December 2025.

In a statement, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the JBC remains the primary legal and technical mechanism for the joint land boundary survey and demarcation process. The ministry emphasized that any discussions should be conducted in a non-confrontational atmosphere, grounded in mutual trust and cooperation.

The ministry said Thailand is prepared to resume JBC meetings but noted that domestic procedures related to the formation of a new government following the recent general election must first be completed. Once finalized, Thailand will formally propose a meeting date and agenda to the Cambodian side.

The ministry also rejected allegations that Thai forces have occupied territory or conducted military operations following the ceasefire, stating that Thai security forces have remained in their existing positions in full compliance with the agreement, as part of de-escalation efforts.

Thailand reiterated its commitment to peaceful dialogue, stability, and the maintenance of calm along the border, in accordance with bilateral agreements and international norms.
