Tourists Fined for Public Sex on Phuket Beach
PHUKET, April 12, 2026 — Thai police have fined two French tourists after they were caught engaging in sexual activity in public on a beach in Phuket, authorities said.
The suspects, identified as Halan, 24, and Nadia, 24, were arrested on April 10 at a hotel in Kathu district following an investigation by officers from Kamala Police Station.
Police said the pair were charged with committing an act offensive to public decency after images of the incident at Layi Beach in Kamala circulated widely on social media, prompting public concern.
Both were fined 5,000 baht each, the maximum penalty under Thai law for such offences, and the case has been referred to immigration authorities for possible further action, including visa revocation.
Authorities said the behaviour violated Thailand’s strict public decency laws, particularly in tourist areas.
Officials added that the case highlights ongoing efforts to maintain public order and uphold local norms, warning that similar incidents would be dealt with firmly.
Thailand, one of the world’s top tourist destinations, continues to emphasise the importance of respecting cultural values and legal regulations, especially in popular beach areas such as Phuket.
