U.S. Calls for Immediate Halt to Fighting on Cambodia–Thailand Border Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State

Phnom Penh, 9 December 2025 — The United States has expressed serious concern over the continued fighting and reported casualties in multiple locations along the Cambodia–Thailand border, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.

In a press statement issued on the official Facebook page of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, stressed the urgent need for both sides to step back from escalation and return to peaceful mechanisms.

The United States strongly urged Cambodia and Thailand to resume the de-escalatory measures outlined in the 26 October Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, which were signed by the Prime Ministers of both countries and witnessed by Donald J. Trump and Anwar Ibrahim.

Washington reaffirmed its support for a diplomatic solution, emphasizing that the protection of civilian lives and the restoration of calm remain the highest priorities amid escalating tensions along the border.

The statement reflects growing international concern that continued clashes risk undermining regional stability and reversing fragile peace efforts.
