Washington, 21 December 2025 — The United States has once again urged Thailand and Cambodia to bring an immediate end to hostilities, withdraw heavy weaponry, halt the laying of landmines, and fully implement the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement, according to U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 21 December (Washington time), Mr. Pigott called on both sides to honor in full their commitments under the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement, including mechanisms aimed at accelerating humanitarian demining efforts and resolving outstanding border issues. He underscored the importance of restraint and compliance with agreed frameworks to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

The United States also welcomed the convening of ASEAN leaders this week, expressing support for regional efforts to encourage Thailand and Cambodia to uphold their commitments and bring the conflict to a peaceful conclusion.

It is noted that ASEAN Foreign Ministers are scheduled to attend a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday, 22 December, to address the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, reflecting heightened regional engagement to support de-escalation and a durable peaceful settlement.
