United States Welcomes Cambodia–Thailand Ceasefire, Calls for Full Implementation of Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords
Washington, D.C., 27 December 2025 — The United States has welcomed the announcement by the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand of a ceasefire agreement to halt hostilities along their shared border, following the recent meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC).
In a press statement issued Saturday night, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended the decision by both sides to de-escalate tensions and emphasized the importance of translating commitments into concrete action on the ground.
The United States urged Cambodia and Thailand to immediately honor the ceasefire and to fully and faithfully implement the provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, underscoring that sustained adherence is essential to restoring stability, protecting civilians, and preventing further escalation.
Washington reaffirmed its support for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a durable and peaceful resolution to the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, and encouraged continued engagement through established bilateral and regional mechanisms in line with international law.
