KRABI, April 8, 2026 — Frequent landings and take-offs of United States military aircraft at Krabi Airport in southern Thailand have drawn public attention and raised questions, as authorities have yet to provide an official explanation.

Residents reported seeing dozens of aircraft operating on April 7, including C-130 transport planes, MV-22 Osprey tiltrotors, and H-60 Seahawk helicopters. Witnesses said the aircraft were flying at low altitude both day and night, generating significant noise.

Videos circulating widely on social media showed aircraft using a section of Krabi International Airport separate from the main passenger terminal. Individuals disembarking were described by locals as appearing to be military personnel.

Residents said such activity had not previously been observed in the province, prompting speculation over the purpose of the flights.

Some suggested the aircraft could be linked to logistical operations or troop movements, while others questioned whether the activity might involve surveys of potential military facilities along Thailand’s Andaman coast. The use of a civilian airport, rather than a dedicated military base, has also raised questions.

The developments come amid heightened global tensions involving the United States and the Middle East, adding to local sensitivities given Thailand’s stated neutral stance in international conflicts.

Officials have so far declined to clarify the situation. Staff at the airport said they were unable to provide details, citing concerns about causing public alarm. A spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force said they were not yet aware of the operations.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the flights are part of a joint exercise, logistical transit, or other military activity. The lack of official information has contributed to ongoing public debate and uncertainty in the area.
