Vietnam Welcomes New Cambodia–Thailand Ceasefire, Expresses Confidence in Effective Implementation and Continued Peaceful Dialogue Ms. Pham Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam

Hanoi (AKP), 28 December 2025 — Vietnam has officially welcomed the newly reached ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, expressing confidence that both sides will faithfully and effectively implement the commitments and continue peaceful negotiations to resolve their border dispute.

Speaking at a press briefing in Hanoi on 28 December, Ms. Pham Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, responded to media inquiries regarding Vietnam’s position on the ceasefire announced in the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) between Cambodia and Thailand.

Ms. Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam welcomes the signing of the Joint Statement, in which Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to adopt measures aimed at reducing tensions along their shared border.

She noted that the ceasefire, which entered into force at 12:00 noon on 27 December 2025, following the conclusion of the meeting, demonstrates the commitment of both parties to halt all hostilities along the border.

The spokesperson further emphasized:

“Vietnam is confident that both countries will fully implement the agreements contained in the Joint Statement and continue negotiations to resolve their differences by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the Charter of the United Nations, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.”

Ms. Pham Thu Hang also underscored that dialogue should be conducted in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, serving the long-term interests of both countries and contributing to regional peace and stability.

In addition, she reaffirmed that:

“Vietnam will continue to closely monitor developments, maintain communication with both parties, and actively participate in ASEAN’s collective efforts to address the situation, including strengthening the role of the ASEAN Observer Teams.”

Vietnam’s statement reinforces ASEAN’s central role in conflict prevention and resolution, and underscores regional commitment to peace, restraint, and dialogue in addressing sensitive border issues.
