Woman Tourist Killed in Phuket Hit-and-Run Before Dawn
PHUKET, 20 July 2026 — Thai police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a foreign woman crossing a major road in Phuket before dawn on Monday before fleeing the scene.
The crash was reported at about 4:45 a.m. on the inbound lanes of Thepkrasattri Road, approximately 20 metres beyond a PTT petrol station in Ko Kaeo, according to Phuket City Police.
Police Major Nattheerphichitchai Nithimet, an investigating officer from Phuket City Police Station, responded to the scene with forensic officers from Vachira Phuket Hospital, personnel from the Ko Kaeo Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and rescuers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.
Officers found the woman lying in the middle of the road with fatal injuries sustained in the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the victim was not carrying any identification documents. Investigators recovered a mobile phone and a wallet before transferring her body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination and identification. Authorities have not yet released her identity or nationality.
Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from the area to identify the vehicle involved and locate the driver, who fled the scene after the crash.
Police said the suspect will face legal action once identified.
Authorities have not disclosed what type of vehicle was involved, nor have they said whether any witnesses have come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
