Cambodia Hosts VECONAC General Assembly, Reaffirms Commitment to Veterans’ Welfare
PHNOM PENH, Oct. 5, 2026 — Cambodia’s hosting of the VECONAC General Assembly provides ASEAN veterans with an important opportunity to reaffirm their shared commitment to solidarity, friendship and cooperation while promoting the exchange of experiences and best practices to improve the well-being of veterans across the region.
The Cambodian Veterans and Pensioners Association has been a member of VECONAC since 2010, actively contributing to regional cooperation and strengthening ties with veterans’ associations from other ASEAN countries through the exchange of experiences and the signing of various cooperation agreements.
The gathering in Phnom Penh is expected to further strengthen cooperation among veterans’ organisations and provide a platform for members to share approaches and initiatives aimed at improving veterans’ welfare.
Government Prioritises Veterans’ Welfare
The 7th legislature of the Royal Government of Cambodia has continued to prioritise improving the livelihoods, well-being and dignity of veterans, retirees, persons with disabilities, and the families of fallen and deceased personnel.

According to the government, efforts have focused on strengthening social security systems, healthcare services and social protection measures for these groups.
Key forms of support include social security benefits and healthcare services, financial assistance for families of fallen and deceased personnel, as well as social land concessions and housing support.
The government has also provided scholarships and skills training for children and dependents of veterans and retirees from disadvantaged backgrounds, aiming to expand educational and economic opportunities for affected families.
Social Land Concessions Support Sustainable Livelihoods
Alongside these measures, the Royal Government has allocated social land concessions to advance the development of settlements for veterans and retirees.
The initiative is intended to support veterans and retirees facing economic hardship, as well as families of fallen and deceased personnel, by helping them establish sustainable livelihoods, increase household income and improve living standards with dignity.
The VECONAC General Assembly in Phnom Penh therefore provides a regional platform for Cambodia to share its experiences while learning from veterans’ organisations across ASEAN on policies and programmes supporting those who have served their countries.
