BANGKOK, November 2, 2026 — Myanmar’s military carried out airstrikes in four townships in Rakhine State on November 1, killing at least 12 civilians, including a newborn baby, and injuring 32 others, according to a statement issued by the Arakan Army (AA).

The attacks targeted areas under AA control in Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Kyaukphyu and Pauktaw townships. All 12 reported fatalities occurred in Kyauktaw and Mrauk-U, the group said.

Airstrike destroys bridge in Kyauktaw

At around 5:30pm, a military jet reportedly dropped bombs near the Yoe Chaung Bridge in Kyauktaw Township, which connects Wa Taung and Pan Hpe Chaung villages along the Sittwe-Yangon highway.

The attack killed seven people travelling along the road and injured another seven, according to the AA.

The group said the bridge was damaged, along with several motorcycles, motorcycle sidecars and nearby houses.

Newborn among five killed in Mrauk-U attack

At approximately the same time, two military jets reportedly dropped four bombs on a temporary medical clinic, maternity ward and surrounding areas near Ngwe Taung Pauk in Thammaraz Ward, Mrauk-U Township.

The AA said five people, including a newborn baby, were killed and nine others injured. Some medical personnel were also reportedly among the wounded, while clinic buildings and nearby houses sustained damage.

Wa Hine Aung, who assists displaced people, told Radio Free Asia (RFA) that a baby aged just one month and six days died following the explosion.

He said the infant died after being frightened by the blast and its impact, which he attributed to the explosion of a 500-pound bomb.

The full identities and details of the casualties had not yet been established, he said.

Following the attack, pregnant women and mothers with children receiving treatment at the temporary maternity clinic in Mrauk-U were reportedly moved to safer locations to protect them from further airstrikes.

Further attacks reported in Kyaukphyu and Pauktaw

In Kyaukphyu Township, two military jets allegedly bombed Sane Min Pyin village at around 5pm, injuring 11 people, including five women and six men, according to the AA.

Earlier that morning, at approximately 3:58am, a Y-12 aircraft reportedly bombed Pauktaw town and Ywar Chaung Gyi village. The attacks injured five people, including three women and two men, the group said.

The AA accused Myanmar’s military of committing war crimes through the attacks.
