Former MP Allegedly Shoots Nonthaburi PAO Chief in Dispute Over Money and Politics
NONTHABURI, 10 Aug 2026 — Former Nonthaburi MP Chalong Riewrang surrendered to police on Monday, August 10, after allegedly shooting Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) president Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert and his driver outside the PAO office.
The shooting occurred at about 10:15am as Thongchai was preparing to leave the Nonthaburi Provincial Government Complex on Rattanathibet Road.
Police said Chalong had reportedly been waiting for Thongchai before approaching his vehicle and knocking on the window. When Thongchai opened it to speak with him, Chalong allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
Thongchai was struck four times, including in vital areas, while his driver was also hit by a bullet.
Rescue workers provided emergency treatment, including CPR, before taking both men to Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Their current conditions have not been publicly reported.
Footage reportedly recorded by staff at the nearby Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Office showed Chalong carrying a firearm. He was seen placing the weapon in his waistband before leaving the area.
He later surrendered to police.
A possible motive emerged after Chalong reportedly called media personality Anjalee “Jae Pong” Pairirak while she was presenting a programme.
According to Anjalee, Chalong claimed that he had fired four or five shots at the PAO chief. He reportedly said he was angry after supporting “the other side” and seeking 11 million baht, but was told that no money was available.
Chalong also reportedly referred to a disagreement over the selection of an MP candidate. According to Anjalee, he had previously objected to a particular candidate being fielded, but the candidate was ultimately selected.
The claims concerning the alleged financial dispute and political disagreement have not been independently verified, and police have not confirmed the motive.
Nonthaburi Governor Chettha Mosikarat, the deputy governor, the deputy commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police and officers from Rattanathibet Police Station inspected the shooting scene as investigators continued their work.
