PHNOM PENH, November 6, 2027 — Tourism Minister Huot Hak has led a delegation to observe the production and traditional embroidery techniques of Khmer Sbai being prepared as souvenirs for delegates attending the 20th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie, which Cambodia will host in the near future.

The initiative is being carried out under the high-level initiative of Cambodia’s First Lady, Pich Chanmony Hun Manet, with the aim of presenting visiting delegates with a meaningful souvenir that reflects the country’s traditional arts, cultural heritage and warm hospitality.

The Ministry of Tourism described each Khmer Sbai as more than a commemorative gift, saying it represents the elegance of Cambodian craftsmanship, the warmth of the country’s hospitality and its friendship with international visitors.

On October 26, 2026, First Lady Pich Chanmony Hun Manet personally attended an activity to learn about Khmer Sbai and the traditional embroidery techniques used to decorate them.

Khmer Sbai are traditional garments that reflect elegance, cultural identity and the skills of Cambodian artisans. Historically used for generations, they have continued to evolve through intricate weaving and decorative patterns closely connected to Khmer art and cultural traditions.

Their designs also symbolise prosperity, flourishing and happiness, making them meaningful gifts for international guests.

The preparation of these Sbai is intended not only to warmly welcome Francophonie Summit delegates but also to promote Cambodian handicrafts and cultural heritage on the international stage.
