China’s Special Envoy Concludes Diplomatic Mediation Mission to Cambodia and Thailand

Beijing, 23 December 2025 — China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Deng Xijun, has concluded a diplomatic mediation visit to Cambodia and Thailand, undertaken from 18 to 23 December 2025, aimed at facilitating dialogue and easing the latest border tensions between the two countries.

Beijing reaffirmed that China fully supports ASEAN’s mediation efforts, including the important role of observer mechanisms in monitoring the ceasefire. China emphasized its consistent position in favor of peaceful resolution through dialogue and regional frameworks.

The Chinese government further stated its willingness to help create favorable conditions and provide appropriate platforms for constructive dialogue and negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand, underscoring China’s commitment to regional stability and peace.

At the same time, China expressed its hope that both Cambodia and Thailand will seek common ground, work to restore mutual trust, and jointly rebuild lasting peace along their shared border.

The conclusion of the special envoy’s visit highlights China’s active diplomatic engagement in support of de-escalation, confidence-building, and a peaceful, negotiated settlement in line with international norms and regional cooperation principles.
