Cambodia hails Belt and Road role, reaffirms China ties

PHNOM PENH, 17 January 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s development trajectory and close ties with China during an interview with China News Service on Thursday, officials said.

Sun Chanthol, who also serves as first vice chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, credited China’s Belt and Road Initiative with supporting key infrastructure and economic growth, and said China remained Cambodia’s largest source of foreign direct investment.

He reaffirmed Cambodia’s support for the One China Policy, welcomed foreign investment without discrimination, and expressed confidence in rising Chinese tourism, as the two countries mark 68 years of diplomatic relations.
