PHNOM PENH, March 17, 2026 — South Korea has pledged to further strengthen and expand its ties with Cambodia, as both countries seek to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, officials said.

South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia Kim Chang Yong made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Tuesday.

The ambassador said it was an honor to serve in Cambodia and highlighted the steady growth in bilateral relations since diplomatic ties were restored in 1997. He noted that cooperation between the two countries has expanded significantly through high-level exchanges and collaboration across multiple sectors.

Kim said South Korea is committed to strengthening relations further and plans to organize activities in 2027 to mark the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic ties.

Hun Manet welcomed the ambassador and praised the positive trajectory of Cambodia–South Korea relations, noting that both countries elevated ties to a “strategic partnership” in 2024, opening the door for broader cooperation.

The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in key areas including economy, trade, investment, education, defense and security.

They also highlighted growing cooperation between law enforcement agencies, particularly in efforts to combat online scams and cybercrime, an issue of increasing concern across the region.

Cambodia and South Korea have developed close ties in recent years, with South Korea emerging as a key partner in investment, development assistance and human resource development.
