PHNOM PENH, March 24, 2026 — Cambodia’s acting head of state Hun Sen has congratulated Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on his re-election, expressing confidence in stronger bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.

In a message sent on March 23, Hun Sen praised Thongloun’s renewed mandate following his election during the first session of Laos’ 10th National Assembly, describing it as a reflection of his leadership and dedication to the Lao people.

Hun Sen said he believes relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Laos will continue to deepen across all sectors, built on mutual trust, shared values and longstanding friendship.

He added that both countries remain committed to promoting peace, stability and prosperity not only for their peoples but also for the wider region and the world.

The Cambodian leader also expressed his intention to work closely with Thongloun to further strengthen partnership and cooperation, highlighting traditional friendship, solidarity and good neighbourly relations as key pillars of bilateral ties.

Cambodia and Laos maintain close diplomatic and political relations, with cooperation spanning trade, security and regional development initiatives.
