PURSAT, March 27, 2026 — Cambodia has brought the international community directly to the frontline of its border situation, as senior officials and foreign diplomats witnessed firsthand the humanitarian consequences of what Phnom Penh describes as unlawful actions by Thai forces inside Cambodian territory.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn led ambassadors, diplomatic representatives and major international organisations to Thma Da commune in Veal Veng district, where Cambodian civilians have been displaced from their homes.

Officials said the visit exposed the reality on the ground, where Thai forces allegedly crossed into Cambodian sovereign territory, installing barbed wire and shipping containers that blocked access to homes and farmland even after a ceasefire agreement.

Cambodian authorities stressed that these actions constitute a serious violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, directly affecting innocent civilians who have been forced to flee and live in uncertainty.

“This is not just a border issue — it is a humanitarian issue,” officials said, underscoring that Cambodian citizens are bearing the consequences of actions taken inside their own territory.

By inviting the diplomatic corps and international organisations, Cambodia aims to ensure transparency and counter misinformation, while calling for greater international attention to the situation.

Phnom Penh reaffirmed its firm commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully through international law and existing bilateral mechanisms, but stressed that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity must be upheld.

The visit marks a clear step by Cambodia to internationalise awareness of the situation, demonstrating both its openness and its determination to defend its national interests while maintaining peace.
