ODDAR MEANCHEY, March 29, 2026 — ASEAN observer Team (AOT) have carried out another on-site mission along the Cambodia–Thailand border, as regional monitoring efforts continue following a ceasefire agreement.

Defence Ministry spokeswoman Maly Socheata said the AOT visited the O’Smach border checkpoint in Samraong city on Sunday to observe, verify and report on the situation on the ground.

The mission, facilitated by Cambodia’s coordination group, aims to ensure full compliance with measures outlined in the post-ceasefire joint declaration between Cambodia and Thailand.

Officials said the visit also marked a transition in leadership within the observer mission, with the Philippines taking over from Malaysia as the rotating ASEAN chair and assuming responsibility for leading the AOT in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh reaffirmed its commitment to fully implementing agreements reached under the General Border Committee (GBC) and the bilateral peace declaration, stressing the importance of restoring normalcy and maintaining long-term peace and stability along the border.

The deployment of ASEAN observers is seen as a key confidence-building measure to enhance transparency, accountability and trust between the two neighbouring countries.
