Thai Royals to Attend Swedish King’s Birthday Events
BANGKOK, April 4, 2026 — Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida are scheduled to pay an official visit to Sweden from April 29 to May 2, according to reports circulating in Thai-language media.
The visit is expected to take place at the invitation of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf, with the Thai royal couple set to attend celebrations marking the Swedish monarch’s 80th birthday on April 30 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
According to the Swedish Royal Court, the birthday will be commemorated with a thanksgiving service at the palace church, military honors in the outer courtyard, public festivities throughout the day and a gala dinner for invited guests in the evening.
If confirmed, the visit would place the Thai king and queen among international royal guests attending one of Sweden’s King ceremonial events this year.
The Swedish Royal Court has declined to confirm details of the Thai visit, referring inquiries to Thai authorities. A request for comment from the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm had not received a response at the time of publication.
Royal visits between Thailand and European monarchies are relatively rare but are seen as opportunities to strengthen diplomatic and cultural ties.
