Thais Commemorate Founding of Chakri Dynasty
BANGKOK, April 6, 2026 — Thailand on Monday marked Chakri Memorial Day, commemorating the founding of the Chakri Dynasty by King Rama I in 1782.
The annual observance honours the legacy of Thailand’s monarchs, whose leadership has played a central role in shaping the country’s history, culture and development.
Ceremonies were held across the country, with key events in Bangkok including wreath-laying rituals at the statue of King Rama I, attended by government officials and members of the public.
The Chakri Dynasty remains Thailand’s current ruling house and is widely regarded as a cornerstone of the nation’s identity and heritage.
Chakri Memorial Day is one of several royal observances in Thailand, reflecting the enduring significance of the monarchy in public life.
