Cambodia, UNESCO Discuss Heritage Protection and Border Issues
PARIS, April 9, 2026 — Cambodia and UNESCO have discussed strengthening cooperation on cultural heritage protection and regional issues, following a meeting between senior officials in France.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held bilateral talks with Khaled El-Enany on the sidelines of official engagements in France, according to a statement.
Both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration in safeguarding Cambodia’s national cultural heritage and World Heritage sites, a key pillar of cooperation between Phnom Penh and the UNESCO.
The discussions also covered recent developments related to the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, as well as broader regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Cambodia has increasingly emphasized heritage preservation and international cooperation as part of its cultural diplomacy, while also raising concerns over developments affecting its historical sites.
The meeting reflects ongoing engagement between Cambodia and UNESCO in promoting cultural protection alongside dialogue on wider geopolitical issues.
