Swedish Fugitive Arrested in Thailand After Interpol Alert
PHUKET, April 12, 2026 — Thai police have arrested a Swedish national wanted on serious criminal charges, including murder and drug trafficking, following an international alert issued through INTERPOL.
The suspect, whose name has not been officially released, was detained on April 9 at a luxury condominium in Phuket after authorities tracked his location through coordination with Swedish law enforcement.
Police said the man is wanted in Sweden on suspicion of involvement in a fatal shooting in Stockholm, as well as illegal weapons offences and drug-related crimes. Investigators also allege he has links to organised crime networks.
Thai authorities said the arrest forms part of a broader effort to target foreign fugitives believed to be using the country as a refuge while evading prosecution abroad.
Initial checks indicate the suspect entered Thailand earlier this year on a tourist visa and later overstayed his permitted stay.
He remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to immigration violations, with extradition proceedings to Sweden set to follow.
Officials said the case highlights ongoing international cooperation in tackling transnational crime and bringing suspects to justice across borders.
