BANGKOK, May 16, 2026 — Thai immigration police have arrested an Indian national wanted for alleged kidnapping, ransom demands and drug trafficking offences after he reportedly fled to Thailand to evade prosecution in India.

The suspect, identified only as Rohan, 38, was detained on Friday afternoon at a hotel in Bangkok by officers from Division 1 of the Immigration Bureau Investigation Division.

Thai authorities said the arrest followed coordination between the Embassy of India in Thailand and Thai immigration police.

Investigators said Indian authorities had issued an arrest warrant against the suspect for multiple serious offences, including kidnapping for ransom and narcotics smuggling.

The operation formed part of a wider nationwide crackdown ordered by Royal Thai Police chief Kitrat Phanphet targeting transnational crime, illegal immigration and foreign criminal networks operating in Thailand.

Senior immigration officials, including Phanumas Boonyalak and Phanthana Nuchanart, had instructed officers to intensify monitoring of foreign suspects and dismantle international criminal operations.

According to investigators, the suspect had previously stayed at a hotel on Ratchaprarop Road in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district in November 2025 before leaving the country.

Authorities later discovered he had re-entered Thailand and was staying at another hotel with his Uzbek girlfriend.

Police said the suspect allegedly avoided registering his name with hotel staff in an attempt to conceal his whereabouts. Officers placed the property under surveillance before confirming his identity and carrying out the arrest.

Immigration officials subsequently revoked his visa and transferred him to Division 3 of the Immigration Bureau Investigation Division for further legal proceedings.

Thai authorities said they continue to cooperate closely with Interpol member states, foreign police agencies and diplomatic missions to prevent Thailand from being used as a refuge or transit hub for fugitives and organised crime groups.

Local media outlet Thaitabloid reported that further coordination with Indian authorities regarding extradition procedures was expected. Thai police have not released additional details concerning the alleged offences or a timeline for deportation.
