BANGKOK, April 18, 2026 — Thai police have arrested 19 Chinese nationals in a raid on a suspected online gambling and scam operation in Bangkok, underscoring growing concerns over the use of Thailand as a base for transnational cybercrime.

Officers from Metropolitan Police Division 5 raided a house in the Sai Mai district on Thursday, seizing more than 100 mobile phones along with computers and other electronic equipment used to run the operation.

Authorities said the group operated an online platform targeting customers in China through an application known as “Changsheng Entertainment”, allowing users to register, transfer funds and convert money into gambling credits.

Investigators said the suspects, aged between 26 and 45, were found actively managing accounts and processing transactions at the time of the raid.

Police described the operation as highly organised, involving structured roles and digital systems to facilitate cross-border financial flows, raising concerns about the expansion of online scam networks in the Thai capital.

“All suspects confessed to involvement in the operation,” police said, adding that charges include participation in a criminal association and organising illegal online gambling.

The raid followed intelligence gathering and a court-approved search warrant, with authorities gaining access to the platform during the investigation to confirm its activities.

Experts say such cases highlight a broader trend of cybercrime groups shifting operations across Southeast Asia, often targeting victims overseas while operating from within the region.

The suspects have been handed over to investigators for legal proceedings, while police said further inquiries are underway to trace financial links and identify possible connections to wider criminal networks.
