Prak Sokhonn Holds Talks With Senior US Diplomat on Thailand Border Issue
PHNOM PENH, May 13, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held telephone talks with senior United States diplomat Allison Hooker on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and advancing peaceful efforts to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute.
According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, both sides welcomed the continued positive momentum in Cambodia-U.S. relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The discussions covered defence, security and joint efforts to combat transnational crime, the ministry said.
Prak Sokhonn also expressed appreciation for United States support for the Cambodia-Thailand peace process and reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to implementing key agreements reached following border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
Those agreements include the ceasefire agreement signed on July 28, 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of Oct. 26, 2025, and the Joint Statement issued after the third Special General Border Committee meeting on Dec. 27, 2025.
The Cambodian foreign minister also stressed the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law.
The talks reflected continued diplomatic engagement between Phnom Penh and Washington as Cambodia seeks broader international support for regional stability and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms.
