MUSCAT, Oman, May 13, 2026 — Omani customs authorities arrested a Thai woman at Muscat International Airport after allegedly discovering nearly 4.4 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed inside her luggage, officials said.

According to Oman Customs, officers seized 4,384 grammes of marijuana during an inspection operation after suspicious items were detected during X-ray screening.

Authorities said the drugs were hidden carefully inside the passenger’s suitcase, prompting customs officers to conduct a detailed search.

Video footage released on Oman Customs’ official X account showed the suspect arriving at a customs checkpoint wearing a pink dress and white hijab while pulling a pink suitcase through the inspection area.

During the search, officers uncovered 12 packages of cannabis wrapped inside a yellow courier plastic bag.

The footage also showed packets of seaweed snacks and laundry detergent packed inside the suitcase, though authorities did not confirm whether those items had been used to conceal additional drugs.
Oman Customs described the concealment method as highly organised and said the seizure reflected ongoing efforts to prevent illegal narcotics from entering the country.

Officials identified the suspect only as a Thai national and did not release further personal details or confirm what charges she may face.

Under Omani law, drug smuggling offences can carry severe penalties.

Authorities also did not disclose where the passenger had travelled from before arriving in Muscat.
Investigators are continuing enquiries to determine the origin of the cannabis and whether a wider smuggling network may have been involved in the operation.
