SIEM REAP, June 10, 2026 — Senate President and Acting Head of State Hun Sen has reaffirmed that Cambodia remains committed to resolving border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, stressing that military force is not an option for the Cambodian government.

Speaking during a meeting with provincial, district and commune officials, as well as leaders of government institutions from Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces on Wednesday morning, Hun Sen said some Thai media outlets had misinterpreted remarks he recently made at a veterans’ settlement center.

“I did not call for the use of military means. I pointed to peaceful means as the solution,” Hun Sen said, emphasizing that Cambodia’s policy is to resolve border disputes through dialogue, diplomacy and legal mechanisms rather than armed confrontation.

He added that the peaceful settlement of border issues with Thailand would form part of the Cambodian People’s Party’s political platform for the 2027 and 2028 elections.

“The Cambodian People’s Party chooses peaceful means to resolve border issues with Thailand,” he stated.

Hun Sen also called on Thai media organizations to review and accurately report his remarks, saying his position had been clear from the outset. He stressed that his comments at the veterans’ community were intended to highlight Cambodia’s preference for peace and stability.

The Acting Head of State further noted that he did not believe responsible political leaders would rely solely on inaccurate media reports when assessing Cambodia’s position.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions between Cambodia and Thailand regarding border and maritime issues, which Cambodian leaders have consistently said should be addressed through peaceful dialogue and international legal frameworks.

Cambodian officials, including Prime Minister Hun Manet and senior government leaders, have repeatedly emphasized that the Kingdom remains committed to maintaining peace, stability and good-neighborly relations while safeguarding its national interests through lawful and diplomatic means.
