Cambodia, U.S. Review Border Situation During Rubio-Prak Sokhonn Meeting
MANILA, 23 July 2026 — Cambodia has expressed appreciation for the United States’ role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement and the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord related to the Cambodia-Thailand border situation during talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The bilateral meeting took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Manila.
Prak Sokhonn welcomed what he described as the positive momentum in Cambodia-U.S. relations and the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting Cambodia’s role as ASEAN Country Coordinator for U.S. relations from 2024 to 2027.
He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with Rubio to further strengthen both bilateral ties and ASEAN-U.S. cooperation.
During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn also reiterated Cambodia’s appreciation to U.S. President Donald J. Trump for what he described as the United States’ valuable support in facilitating the ceasefire agreement and the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.
According to the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, Prak Sokhonn also thanked Washington for maintaining close attention to the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and briefed Rubio on the latest developments along the frontier.
The meeting formed part of a series of bilateral engagements held on the margins of the ASEAN ministerial meetings, where regional leaders are discussing political, security and economic issues affecting Southeast Asia.
