Xi Sends Greetings as Wang Yi Meets Cambodian King, Queen Mother
BEIJING, June 18, 2026 (Xinhua) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Beijing on Wednesday during their stay in China for medical check-ups and recuperation, reaffirming the close ties between the two countries.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed greetings and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, according to China’s Xinhua News Agency.
The meeting took place at the request of President Xi while the Cambodian monarch and Queen Mother are undergoing routine medical examinations and recuperation in the Chinese capital.
Wang noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk’s first visit to China. He said King Sihamoni has continued his father’s legacy of friendship with China and developed a close relationship with President Xi.
He said that under the leadership of the two heads of state, bilateral relations had entered a new phase of building an “all-weather community with a shared future” and reaffirmed China’s willingness to deepen practical cooperation with Cambodia for the benefit of both countries.
King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Monineath asked Wang to convey their greetings and best wishes to President Xi and Peng Liyuan, saying Cambodia would remain China’s closest friend regardless of changes in the international landscape, Xinhua reported.
