PHNOM PENH, 28 June 2026 – Cambodia has lodged a formal protest against what it describes as Thailand’s continued violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity in Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province, accusing Thai forces of carrying out activities inside Cambodian territory.

In a statement issued on 28 June, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the Royal Government had formally protested Thailand’s actions in the area of Ampil commune, where Thai armed forces allegedly cleared forested land and installed barbed wire near Border Marker No. 26.

According to the ministry, the activities took place between early June and 23 June 2026 and involved further incursions into Cambodian territory.

Cambodia said the actions violate Article 5 of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary between Cambodia and Thailand, signed on 14 June 2000, as well as the first confidence-building measure contained in the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on 27 December 2025.

The government reiterated that Cambodia does not recognise any unilateral border line or territorial claim made by Thailand and said the reported activities would not affect Cambodia’s legal rights or position regarding its international boundary.

Cambodia called on Thailand to immediately cease the activities and honour its commitments to reduce tensions, promote mutual confidence, facilitate the peaceful settlement of disputes and restore peace, stability and good neighbourly relations along the shared border.

The Cambodian government also reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all border disputes with Thailand, as well as with neighbouring countries, through peaceful means in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while maintaining its longstanding position that international borders must not be altered through the use of force.
