PHNOM PENH, 30 June 2026 — Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen has welcomed Cambodia’s latest global recognition after the country was ranked first worldwide for land and resource sustainability in 2026, according to U.S. News & World Report.

In a social media post on 30 June, Hun Sen congratulated Cambodia on receiving the top global ranking for Land and Resource Sustainability. The recognition follows an assessment by the U.S.-based publication and research organisation, with Cambodia ranked ahead of Slovenia in second place and Paraguay in third. Within Southeast Asia, Cambodia also ranked first, followed by Laos and Myanmar.

According to the report, the ranking was based on five key indicators: reducing carbon emissions, preventing deforestation, protecting natural conservation areas, promoting sustainable trade, and implementing measures to address water scarcity. The assessment drew on data from internationally recognised organisations, including EDGAR, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the European Union’s Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL), and the World Bank.

Hun Sen said the recognition reflects Cambodia’s strong commitment to protecting forests, conserving natural resources and promoting sustainable land management, while contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

He added that the achievement builds on Cambodia’s environmental policies developed under his previous leadership and continued under Prime Minister Hun Manet. Hun Sen also noted that Cambodia had earlier been recognised as the world’s top-ranked country for natural environment in 2026, describing the latest ranking as further international recognition of the country’s environmental management efforts.
