Russian Expat Found Dead in Phuket Rental Apartment
PHUKET, 2 July 2026 — A 44-year-old Russian man was found dead by hanging inside his rented apartment in Phuket after friends, unable to contact him for several days, forced their way into the room during a welfare check, police said.
Officers from Kathu Police Station were called to an apartment in Kathu district at about 7:10 p.m. on June 29 after receiving reports that a foreign national had been found dead inside the property.
Police said the deceased was identified as Konstantin, a 44-year-old Russian national. A 22-year-old female friend told investigators she and others became concerned after they were unable to reach him for about three days.
After receiving no response to repeated knocks, they looked through a gap beneath the door and saw the man motionless inside the room. They then forced entry and discovered him hanging by a rope before alerting emergency services.
A preliminary examination indicated the man had likely died about two days earlier. According to police, the friend said he had a history of depression and lived alone. Investigators reported no immediate signs of foul play at the scene.
The body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have also coordinated with the Russian Embassy to notify the deceased’s family and arrange the repatriation of his remains and other legal procedures.
