CAMEROON, 12 July 2026 — The Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) has adopted a resolution calling for respect for Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adherence to commitments aimed at securing lasting peace along the border, and an end to unilateral actions that could further escalate tensions.

The resolution was adopted during the APF plenary session held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on 10-11 July 2026, following a proposal from its Political Committee.

The assembly called for respect for the ceasefire and full implementation of agreements contained in the joint declaration signed by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October 2025.

The resolution also expressed serious concern over continued tensions and reported activities in border areas described as being under Thai occupation. These included the construction of civilian and military infrastructure, the holding of religious ceremonies at cultural and religious sites, and initiatives related to land allocation in those areas.

The APF expressed deep regret over the suffering of civilians and damage to or destruction of cultural heritage, which it described as the shared legacy of humanity. It warned that such developments could undermine prospects for lasting peace and reconciliation.

The assembly called for the border dispute to be resolved peacefully as soon as possible through all established bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in a spirit of dialogue and respect for international law.

The resolution also supported the normalisation of relations between Cambodia and Thailand based on mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders.

It further called for border demarcation to be conducted in accordance with the legal framework established under relevant international instruments.

The APF’s resolution comes amid continued tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border and growing calls for both sides to uphold existing agreements, avoid unilateral actions and pursue a peaceful settlement through dialogue and international law.
