BEIJING, 17 July 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving its border dispute with Thailand through peaceful means, telling Chinese Premier Li Qiang that Phnom Penh remains firmly committed to international law and existing bilateral agreements.

The issue was raised during their meeting on 16 July, held as Hun Manet attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in China from 15-17 July.

According to the Cambodian government, Hun Manet stressed that Cambodia’s position remains unchanged, with the country committed to resolving border issues peacefully and in accordance with international law, as well as the existing conventions, treaties and bilateral agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.

The Cambodian leader also briefed Li on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border during the high-level meeting.

China has closely followed the border situation between Cambodia and Thailand. In 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held separate discussions with his Cambodian and Thai counterparts regarding the dispute.

Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is also scheduled to meet China’s president and premier later this week. According to Thai media reports, the Cambodia-Thailand border issue is expected to be among the topics discussed.

Anutin has previously said Thailand welcomes China’s constructive role in supporting efforts to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute peacefully.
