Angelina Jolie Calls Attention to Cambodia’s Border Displacement Crisis

PHNOM PENH, 24 July 2026 — Actor and humanitarian Angelina Jolie has expressed solidarity with Cambodians displaced by the border conflict, saying her thoughts remain with families who have yet to return to their homes one year after the fighting.

In a post shared on Instagram, Jolie said nearly 30,000 people remain internally displaced, describing the conflict as having disrupted the safety and stability of communities along Cambodia’s border.

Jolie said Cambodia has long held a special place for her and her family, noting that it is her son’s country of birth and that she has worked with a locally led team on conservation and community development in the country for more than two decades through the Maddox Foundation.

She said the foundation is based in the same border region where the recent conflict occurred and recalled that its staff and their families had to be evacuated when fighting broke out last year.

While expressing gratitude that the foundation has resumed its work supporting conservation, community health and local livelihoods, Jolie said her thoughts remain with those who continue to wait for the opportunity to return home.
