Three Indian Tourists Rescued After Kidnapping and Torture in Pattaya
PATTAYA, 29 July 2026 — Three Indian tourists have been rescued after allegedly being kidnapped, held captive and tortured for ransom in Pattaya, following a joint operation by Thai police and members of the local Indian community.
The victims were freed during a raid on an apartment in the Nong Prue area on July 27, authorities said.
According to investigators, the three men had been held captive since July 21 after allegedly being lured to Thailand with the promise of a low-cost travel package.
After arriving in the country, the victims were allegedly tied up, gagged and severely beaten. They were reportedly forced to lie face down on a mattress with their heads lowered and were deprived of food and water for several days while their captors demanded a ransom from their families.
The kidnappers allegedly demanded 7 million Indian rupees—equivalent to about 2.5 million Thai baht (approximately US$74,667)—in exchange for the victims’ release.
Police said five suspects—believed to include four Pakistani nationals and one Indian national—escaped on motorcycles shortly before officers arrived at the apartment.
The investigation has been complicated because the suspects allegedly used telephone numbers registered in Saudi Arabia to conceal their location, making it more difficult for investigators to trace the hideout.
All three victims were rescued safely and have since contacted their families in India. Thai police are continuing their investigation and searching for the suspects, who remain at large.
